Our Story

The Zalatel Estate spans 10 hectares of vineyards. It’s located on the southwestern slopes of Brda, in the middle of a hill called Čisto in the village of Hruševlje. Most of our vineyards are right next to the cellar, where we focus primarily on the Rebula, Malvazija, Sauvignon Vert, and Merlot varieties. In 1991, we embarked on an independent path, bottling our first Rebula under our own label. Today, the Zalatel cellar offers a wider range of wines. In addition to a fresh line of varietal wines, we proudly present the de Onesti sparkling wine made by the traditional method, and the Cursò line of aged wines.

The walls don’t speak. At least not as loudly and in a language for everyone to understand them. If we could understand them, the Zalatel homestead could tell us a lot.

Wines

Our wines are characterized by their pursuit of varietal distinctiveness, even though the terroir and the winemaker’s touch unite them. Brda wines are recognizable for their minerality, full body, and dominant fruit notes, while the varietal character shines through in subtle details. These details give the wine’s bouquet either an herbal or floral touch, which is also evident on the palate. This can evoke ripe fruit, compotes, and even marmalade, or it can remain seriously unique and, above all, wine-like. The finish of all our wines is long and pleasant, yet varietally diverse, allowing either freshness or refined maturity to stand out. Each wine is slightly different, none subordinate to another, and convincing on its own, all while inviting you to discover all Zalatel wines.
